Who is Blake?
Bianca “Blake” Buzzington is a 13-year-old honeybee-hornet hybrid whose origins are very complicated. She was raised by her biological father’s brother and his wife before immigrating to the Neverhive. For over half of her life, the lovely young lady carried a secret: who her mother was and how she came to be born.
During the most difficult year of her life, Viscountess Babs lived on the street of different Neverzones trying to survive. Babs was thrown out of college by a vice-provost who was biased against girls who were from powerful families and partied all day on campus. Babs was too afraid to return to the royal family because the scandal of her failure would drag her family down with her. Babs spiraled downward until she reached the point where she forgot her own name, her family, and the life she once knew.
It turned out that there was one other student who knew what the vice-provost did, but got to Babs too late. His name was Beauregard Buzzington, a Neverscapian hornet whose brother was an attache with the royal family. Bo found Babs after she had been on the streets for months, but they rekindled their relationship, facing destitution. They conceived an egg and planned to name her Bianca. UBo’s kindness and lack of street experience left him vulnerable, and he fell victim to unknown criminals. This shattered Babs to the point that she did not even remember her own name, let alone her family. The only thing she remembered was what she wanted to name her daughter: Bianca.
What is her relationship to Babs now?
Blake spent much of her childhood admiring Viscountess Babs without knowing that the celebrated ballerina was her mother. The revelation did not instantly change their relationship. Blake had been lovingly raised by her uncle Bart and aunt Brenda and already understood what it meant to have a family. Instead, the truth began a journey of understanding between mother and daughter. As Blake learned about Babs’ fall from grace, her lost memories, and the love that existed before tragedy struck, she came to see not a royal figure or a famous dancer, but a woman who had unknowingly spent years separated from her child. What began as admiration eventually became a genuine mother-daughter bond. To Babs, Blake is her beloved ma petite; to Blake, Babs is no longer merely her hero, but her mother.
What Did Blake Know About Her Birth Family?
Blake always knew that Bart and Brenda Buzzington were her aunt and uncle and that she was being raised by relatives. They never lied to her about that fact. However, believing that she was too young to understand the complexities of royal politics, family scandal, and her mother’s tragic history, they kept the identity of her birth mother a secret. As a result, Blake grew up knowing that parts of her family history had not yet been shared with her, but she did not know that Viscountess Babs, the celebrated Neverscapian ballet dancer she admired so deeply, was in fact her mother. With that revelation came the discovery of an entire maternal branch of her family, including Billie, Winona, and Whitney, who were her aunts. Blake was also surprised to learn that her best friend, Brendan Beemer, was a relative through her great-uncle Ben, the Duke, who had lived for many years as a common member of the Neverhive Parliament.
