Tina Tortoise

Not all families are created equal, nor do they all fit within one kind of mold. For Kristina Shellby Tortoise, it is the differences that bring loved ones together, celebrating their uniqueness and creating positive light when the world is dark and cold. Apart from her biological big siblings, Tina has barely been around any of her fellow turtles or tortoises. Her face is a deadpan and neutral angelic one, but her feelings are never a secret. Those who truly love her have a clear window into her heart, and there are very few on the island that don’t love this little sweetheart.

ONE SHELL OF A FAMILY: Not long after she was born, Tina lost her parents to Quilliad Terrorists. Her mother’s best friend who Tina’s former nanny Alana immediately filed with the Nevertribe Lords to adopt the little cutie infant, who grew up to be a vivacious and caring albeit quiet young lady, the light of Arthur’s life and his family’s.
TRUE ROOTS: Donna and Leo were crazy about their baby girl, wanting only the best for her that life had to offer. Education, freedom to pursue her passions, comfort. They would get their wish by putting their trust in longtime best friend and nanny Alana. At the present time, Tina has only seen separate pictures of her parents close-up. She was far too young to remember how tall her mother truly was.

Relationships:

UNSPOKEN BOND: Arthur’s family is known for their unusual choices in mates, so Tina is in very good company. Tina has been Arthur’s faithful sweetheart since they were babies.

Arthur Peggio Hopper: The son of Soprana the Neverspider and her late-combinoft Edmund G. Hopper, Arthur inherited his mother’s and sister’s talents for music. Raised to be a gentleman by his close relationships to big sister Cello, sister v’combin Tetrazin, and big cousin Celia, Arthur never had to go far out of his way to impress Tina. By the same token, Tina takes great comfort from being with him because she knows that his feelings are genuine, and have only grown since they were little.

Cello Hopper-DeScorch: Arthur’s big sister is more than just a mentor figure to Tina and ToxAnon, Tina does not want to wait for the Oath of Combination to have Cello as her big sister, too. Cello absolutely adores Tina and believes that she and Arthur are meant to be.

3-2-1….CONTACT!! Baby Zimri loves riding on the cosmic slide while riding on Tina’s back. Nothing could keep Tina from spending quality time with her boyfriend’s baby sister, not even the thrill of high g-forces.

Zimri Hopper: As the youngest of her biological and adoptive families, Tina longed to be a big sister when she and Arthur learned that Churro was expecting her first child with second Combinoft Jargon. After she hatched, Tina fell madly in love with the infant Zimri the minute she was brought home from the Nevertribe Clinic. Zimri has seldom gone a day without Tina’s presence, wanting to help Strat and Tetra take care of her while their parents are away, after all, there is something about a blue grasshopper’s eyes that warms the cold-blooded reptilian girl’s heart like magma. Zimri brings out a strong energy in Tina that no one else is capable of. Tina enjoys every second of time with Arthur’s baby sister, especially when she plays UFO with her. As far as Zimri is concerned, Tina is family, her Sophcart.

Magnolia Fyre-Sol: Every Neverbeing that you see in the above picture is someone who has at one point or another cemented their place in Tina’s heart forever. Magnolia is special however because of her and Tina’s shared knowledge of the Earth Animal food chain. As a predatory animal, owls would dine on many of the aforementioned Neverbeings’ species, but Tina’s meekness activates Magnolia’s protective fires, not her predatory fires. Tina has been an invaluable help to ToxAnon and Petalia, and they share a very special bond.

COLD-BLOODED AVERSION TO COLD WATER: Despite being the biological daughter of a Loch Ness swimmer, Tina fears the icy touch of the ocean more than anything else. While she valiantly tried to cure herself of her fears, she backed away, believing herself to be a failure. The truth of the matter was Tina was far harder on herself than anyone else would have been with her about her actually-valid phobia.

Petalia: Because of Arthur’s saintly mother, aunt, and cousin each being wrongly discriminated against because they are of a toxic species, Tina believes that every ally in their corner is worth their weight in pixie gold. Wanting to contribute to the cause and make the world safe for Neverbeings like Arthur, Celia, and Zimri, Tina has proven to Petalia and Ross that she is fully committed to their ideals, and has been their friend long before the group was formed. Petalia has been a mentor figure and big sister to Tina, sharing the same meekness and coy lack of confidence in themselves but able to bring it out in others.

IN THE ANIMAL JUSTICE SYSTEM…: One of their favorite rituals is their video orb viewing time and their favorite show with Mooseriska Hardtosay and Berry Cloystrock, a more animal-friendly but not-less gripping crime drama based on the real shows.

Alana Amradilla: For the first few months of Tina’s life Alana, her mother’s best friend, was Tina’s nanny, but it was no major transition for the child when Donna and Leo died. Alana never wanted to change Tina’s surname to hers, never wanted to delude the connection to Donna from Tina. Tina always knew that she was adopted, and it never mattered. Alana and her snail husband were the ideal couple for her, coincidentally other species with shells, and made Tina believe the truth that being slower does not mean that she is lesser than anyone else. To Alana, Tina is the epitome of beauty and grace, a clear reflection of her birth parents, never allowing herself to take any credit for how Tina turned out. Not to worry though, Tina always shows her mother how wonderful she has been to her.

THUMBS NOT INCLUDED: Using a jeweler’s loupe and lots of patience, Tina pushes herself to find as much common ground with her adoptive father as possible. It is not the kits that Tina enjoys, but how she and her old man have fun together regardless of the result.

Silas Snayle: To Silas, Tina is his and Alana’s little princess, connected by a love that goes far beyond shells. As soft-spoken as she is, Silas has seen for himself how talented Tina is, and how she does not even realize that she even has it, or has never allowed herself to believe that she could ever surpass her daddy. Silas had a flair for Earth hobbies that included model-kit building. Whenever he would buy a reproduction of an existing kit from Earth at the PX, he always bought a duplicate kit and extra supplies for Tina. Listening to some of their shared Earth music (“Touch of Grey,” Chicago, REO Speedwagon, Moody Blues, Clapton, Bread, Cream, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Simon and Garfunkel) on LP vinyl, Tina used her discerning eye for craft in ways she never realized were at a gifted level, which only proved to Silas that his little girl was devoid of conceit and ego. He was never envious that her models were practically flawless compared to his, keeping in mind that he does as well as he does without any organic limbs to aid him; rather, he would often tell his buddies that he never made the effort to make a kit, that his tools and supplies were just Tina’s spares. Tina idolizes and reveres her snail father, and their bond can never be broken.

GENTLE PUSH FROM AFAR: Charlotte feels a great love for her two best friends and those they made since they first started volunteering for ToxAnon. As much as she commits herself to her studies, she helps Tina and Arthur reach their full potential, even if it is near the point of mesmerism. Char saw Tina’s potential for tinkering after a hot day in the Neverwoods, and brought her besties on a little excursion for inspiration in the basement of the PX where their discarded junk was kept.

Charlotte Chameleon: It is hard for a color-shifting reptile to not blend in with the world around her, but Char has that desire to stand out, but she lacks the self-confidence and desire to be given recognition or accolades for it. Instead, she hones her altruism as a way to reach out and make the world a better place for all. Having been friends since they were toddlers, Charlotte has been joined at the hip and exoskeleton with Arthur and Tina, and Tina has always smiled on the inside whenever her pigtail-haired friend is near. In many ways Charlotte is Tina’s polar opposite, while at the same time sharing many similarities. She is vocal and daring, whereas Tina provides a stable sense of warmth and comfort to the extroverted chameleon girl. Charlotte often tries to give the couple their space so as not to be a third wheel, but Tina and Arthur won’t hear of it and welcome Charlotte as a wing-gal and mutual sister figure. Charlotte often worries that her never having a single fight or argument with Tina is unrealistic, but Tina is truthful when she says that if Charlotte does cross some kind of line, she will tell her. The reason Tina never has had a fight with Charlotte is because Charlotte’s kind heart is incapable of crossing lines like that, her empathy is just far too strong.
