Early Years
The second-born of Shari and Robert Schucart, Sophie was your average girl. She loved to play outdoors, play with dolls, and make believe she was a princess from a Disney movie. This is what she was like before the birth of her little brother, Jesse. Then her personality grew exponentially. She had stronger-than-normal maternal-fraternal instincts when it came to her love for Jesse; she adored him because of the way he was around her; like he was familiar with her more than anyone else besides their mom. But this did not start out that way, at least not for Sophie.
Prior to Jess’s birth, their brother Sandy made Sophie feel unwanted and that being an elder sibling was a curse. The four-year-old Sophie didn’t realize that this was just Sandy blustering. He warmed up to Jesse, but Sophie had decided that she didn’t want to be a big sister. She avoided Jesse for the first week, until their parents intervened. One look into Jesse’s eyes in his playpen, and Sophie’s heart erupted with love. She had awakened something in Jesse — a sense of unparalleled love and adoration, something he didn’t even exhibit for the rest of the family. The two formed an intense loyalty-crush for the other, with Sophie vowing to be Jesse’s protector and best friend.
In Kindergarten the following year, Bella and Sophie first met, and it was their loyalty-crushes for their siblings that drew each other to the other without even realizing it (they also both had the same Jem and the Holograms lunchbox). Sophie was relatively shy for most of elementary school, but blossomed with Bella as her friend. As Jesse got older, they became that much closer. Often Sophie and Jesse would wear similar outfits like they were twins. Jesse always looked up to Sophie and treated her like his best friend and a second mother at times, this was something Sophie always cherished. When Jesse was 8, Sophie had done research over the summer about Autism and conferred with the school counselors on whether or not Jess would need help. Sophie begged their mother to let her watch Jesse’s first speech class the first day of school, to make sure he would adjust. She got her wish– and more than she bargained for.
Sophie left RHMS and walked over to Serene Plains and escorted him to Jesse’s speech class. She saw a familiar face that gave her relief: the little girl that Jesse was to sitting by: Bella’s younger sister Ariella (Ellie). Sophie and Connie Mayhall saw that both kids were drawn to the other and that they would be the best way for the other to grow. Ariella looked up to Sophie as a big sister and couldn’t have asked for the situation to be better if she had planned it. But then the embargo was set and Ariella and Jess would have to be pulled from school and be homeschooled. Sophie was Jesse’s rock through this, for which he would later attempt to be for her, unsuccessfully.
Trying times:
When Bella’s mother was killed in a car explosion and Bella herself was comatose from her near fatal injuries, Sophie’s world fell apart. She had been nursing a crush she had for Bella since fifth grade, and seeing a badly burnt Bella in the Burn Ward at AbGen shattered her. Jess had seen how sad and lost Sophie was and tried to comfort her by cuddling with her in her bed. She at first welcomed this, but when his lower regions became erect (albeit unintentionally) she faked being angry and ordered him to leave– calling him “dorko” and a “loser”. Having never been yelled at by her like that, he ran out in tears. He had no way of knowing that none of that was what Sophie really felt, that she painfully wanted her little brother to comfort her, but it was to teach him a lesson in what was proper in boundaries.
Sophie, in her pain, had grown closer to her gym coach, one Esther Mae Winona Jones after an altercation with two bullies, Heather Schlattler and Ashlee Brosenfeld, in the girls’ locker room. It was a hate crime because Sophie had sent a love letter to the girl’s sister in her grade. By this point, Sophie decided to try to experiment with her bisexuality and dated guys and gals (those of whom she knew would never work, but this recent girl was different) With Esther’s help, Sophie’s attackers were arrested and Sophie would come to learn that Esther was Bella’s aunt, cementing two things: her friendship with her, and an insatiable attraction to the lesbian coach.
For months they had spent time together at lunch and would talk and share things about themselves. Esther did keep the fact that she was married to her wife Jillian from everyone at school, including Sophie. Valentine’s week, Sophie decided to make her move: getting a room at the Lorlest Hotel, giving Esther an envelope with love letter and a room-key; signing it as Esther’s “love slave”. Esther didn’t show up. When a very-nude Sophie in the hotel room called Esther’s number, Jillian was the one who answered, saying she was the coach’s wife. Once again, Sophie’s heart was shattered.
The following day, Karen Schneider (the math teacher that was loved by all Jones and Schucarts), under the request of Esther in secret, to take Sophie to see the one child who would heal Sophie’s heart. Sophie was taken to the DuBrau house in Remington and it was there that Sophie was reunited with Bella and Ariella’s baby sister (age 8 at that time), Nicole. Nicole, being fostered by both her Uncle Randy’s family and Esther and Randy’s first cousin, Angelica Jones DuBrau, was reduced to emotional tears upon seeing her surrogate big sister/babysitter after months apart. This was also a night of healing for Jess who was on speaking terms with Sophie again a couple of weeks prior.
A few months later, Sophie was stunned to see that Ariella and Bella were awake. Sophie would be a major force for their physical rehabilitation and helping them test into the grades they were supposed to be in. This was part of the reason Sophie became a personal trainer. That summer, Sophie and Bella got jobs at Camp Hawthorne as camp counselors, with Jess and Ariella being talked into going. Sophie and Jess sat in the audience when Ariella first donned her Pan costume as Peter Pan in the camp play. Jesse fell in love with this girl, not realizing that her heart was already his property. It would be right after this that Sophie would finally have the courage to tell Jess that she (Sophie) was bisexual. Jess didn’t react the way she feared, it didn’t change anything other than they had one more thing in common: girls.
Personality
Sophie Schucart is a girl with a lot of spirit, and a ton of heart. Sophie is mostly a homebody when not at work or adventuring as a Pan Knight. She and Jess in fact both became apprentice knights and ascended at the same time. Sophie is very romantic and was so happy when Jess suggested that the two couples get married in a double wedding: Him and Ariella; and Sophie and Bella.
When a new family member comes along through circumstance (i.e. Gwendy, and Lexi) she and Jess are first to welcome them into the fold. Sophie is very family-oriented, a trait she picked up from being Bella’s best friend and Jess picked it up from her. Sophie has pet names for almost all of those she loves: Nicole (her precious little “fawn”), Bella (Bells), Ariella (Ari), and for Jesse, the title of her little “Care Bear”, which Jesse happily embraces. Now Sophie is a mother to a beautiful part-fay infant whose spirit was once that of Oberon’s son Puck, named Bree. Originally Sophie was going to be Declan’s godmother, but when Bella finally embraced Sophie as her Sigoth, the subject was dropped as she would be Declan’s mother.
Sophie has recently found out that she is the reincarnation of the woman that links the Jones and Schucarts together on the family tree: Leah Morgenstern-Sapherseider (the mother of Chiam Schucart’s wife, Rivka) and was the elder sister of Jesse’s preincarnation, Giles Morgenstern. Sophie’s relationship with her little brother is quite remarkable and odd, but the fact that they love each other so much and never argue is not something to take lightly. Jesse and Sophie have only had one fight in their lives, and while they regret it immensely, it only made them stronger, as they both went inside their bridged minds and fought off the toxic being that was the cause of it.
