Who is Stratocaster Hopper?

The firstborn son of Edmund Hopper and Soprana the Neverspider, Strat grew up in Hopper Hills where his gift for music was nurtured. When his little sister Cello was born, she knighted him with a kiss when he held her for the first time, and both of them held onto that moment during their most trying times.

Strat’s story is one of self-discovery, perseverance, and learning to reconcile his dreams with reality. His fascination with 1980s Earth music became a lifelong passion, but his journey was often complicated by feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt. Rather than allowing those feelings to define him, Strat learned to support the people he loved, especially his sister Cello, whose own talent for music reminded him that love is more important than rivalry.

Even though he wanted to be a musician so badly he would have made a faustian bargain to make it come true, he nurtured his little sister’s talent for music in a way that made him believe that he was being snide and spiteful, when in reality he was internalizing his negative feelings so deeply that they would eventually vanish via his white blood cells, never once losing perspective about why his little sister’s love mattered more than music, and the universe would return this kindness with a most unexpected cluster of rewards.

  • Yes, he was. While Stratocaster Hopper is his own character, his passion for music serves as a tribute to the creator’s father. His dedication to practice, his love of performance, and his belief that music can connect people across generations are all rooted in that admiration.
• What makes Strat different from other Hopper family members?
  • While the Hopper family shares a love of the arts, Strat’s passion in music is shared with his mother and sister. What makes him different is that he failed that dream and learned he had a talent he never realized he was nurturing. He just needed outside perspectives to help him find it.
• Did Strat fail at his dream?
  • In one sense, yes. In another, no. 
    • Strat’s original vision of success never materialized the way he hoped. Yet the journey was far from wasted. His failures taught him resilience, sharpened his creativity, and ultimately helped him discover talents he had unknowingly been developing all along. Music remained a cherished part of his life, even as new opportunities emerged.
  • Failure is not the death sentence people associate it with.
    • Strat would eventually come to realize that his failures, follies, and misunderstandings were essential in order to find true happiness. These are the greatest of teachers, but only if their lessons are accepted by those who experienced it.
• Did Strat ever stop loving music?
  • Never. While Strat’s dream of becoming a professional musician ultimately led him down an unexpected path, his love of music remained unchanged. His unique mind allows him to visualize chords, melodies, and harmonies in ways many others cannot. Even after discovering other talents, music remained one of the great passions of his life and continues to influence the way he experiences the world.
• Is Zimri Strat’s daughter?
  • No. Zimri is Strat’s goddaughter through his close bond with Tetrazin. Their relationship is often mistaken for that of a father and daughter because of the affection, responsibility, and protectiveness Strat shows toward her.
  • Part of the confusion comes from the unusual structure of Neverbeing families. Through various family connections, Zimri is both Strat’s maternal half-sister and his paternal half-cousin. Due to the extraordinary longevity of Neverbeings, Strat is also old enough to be her father despite not actually being her parent.
  • As a result, their relationship occupies a unique space somewhere between sibling, family friend, mentor, and surrogate parental figure.
• What is that disgusting thing he’s doing in the gallery picture?
  • It’s a special mixture of enzymes and iron-rich compounds produced by Strat’s Magical Gear Cells. He discovered the ability entirely by accident, but what first appeared strange eventually became the foundation of a successful business. Strat’s unique biological process allows him to create the enamel pins sold throughout the Myriad and his Neverzone’s trading post, the Nevertribe PX.
