Appearance and Physical Attributes
Born with below-average eyesight, Gwendy always had to wear glasses, but they always have brought out the sparkle of her eyes rather than shield them. Due to childhood trauma, Gwendy became depressed and heavyset by the time she was in third grade. During the years that she lived in Steelsville, Gwendolyn decided to rebuild herself and trim her physique, resulting in the fit youth seen in the picture above; but the reasons for it were probably not quite as healthy. Greatly resembling her mother and her distant cousins, Gwendy has chestnut brown hair and equally elegant brown tiger’s eyes (according to Ariella). Compared to the rest of Team Panfan, she is median height and bust. Her style of dress is often less traditional, yet feminine-oriented. Like Serena, Gwendy’s go-to garb is overalls or halters. Her hair breaks off into two outer tufts of flat bangs, and patterns like a zigzag along the back.

Like her best friend Twi, Gwendy Ascended as a special type of Pan Knight, a hi-tech hybrid warrior known as a Valkyrie Pan Knight. In Pan Form, Gwendy’s outfit is a formfitting mantle and leotard with knee-high stockings. Her Panvizor is a transparent blue screen that displays information in holographic augmented Realtime vision. She carries a quiver of crossbow arrows and has a bag of pixie dust bootstrapped to her upper thigh. More of a callback to the Greek God Hermes, her headpiece features wings that are actually more akin to mermaid scales than feathers. The aura her Panform projects is attuned to the energy signature that an Avariel Knight would be extra sensitive to; a special way to augment Rafael Heyward’s ascended form of same, as his senses would not be as empathically charged as a Pan Knight’s
Personality Traits:
Before meeting Nicole Jones in 3rd Grade, Gwendy was a very shy and quiet girl, believing that she was not pretty enough to befriend such a stunner like the former. Repressed childhood trauma was part of the reason for her depression; namely, the man who was thought to be her true father, Ted Masterson — a serial abuser, rapist, and criminal. Having been freed of his presence, she was still haunted by his actions, and especially how it cost them her half-brother Michael and his love for her.
In the present, Gwendy has matured and blossomed with the help of her friends and loved ones, having reconciled with Nicole and Michael, each. Despite how far away they on on their family trees, Gwendy is what you get when you mix Ariella Jones, Nicole Jones, Sophie Schucart, and Jesse. Gwendy is extremely romantic, artistic, a self-proclaimed geek, spiritual, and hopeful individual. It was her self-doubt, however, that tore her apart from her two crushes, Nicole and Rafe; believing that what she felt was unnatural, at least as far as Nicole goes. Like the rest of Team Panfan, Gwendy is a born-fighter; willing to lay it all on the line for the side of good and justice, having recently ascended as a Pan Valkyrie-Class Knight.
History
Born 16 years prior to 20XX, Gwendy was the product of an extramarital affair between Olivia Schucart and her much older husband’s nephew Blake, her flame from high school. Why it mattered to Ted that Olivia cheated on him — when he had torrid affairs right and left — is beyond comprehension; but for most of her life, Gwendy was led to believe that Ted was her father, and that Michael Masterson was her half-brother. The first few years of her life, Gwendy was happy and close with her much older big brother, but something had happened to make Michael change, and it devastated both Olivia and Gwendy when it did.
When Gwendy was seven, Ted tried to do to her what he had done to Michael; but Olivia’s quick actions got him put in prison; but the damage was done, even though he never got the chance to harm her. The aftermath of all that had happened led Gwendy into a deep depression, which turned into an eating disorder and withdrawal from normal social interaction. When Olivia moved to Paulsen Manor, near Serene Plains Elementary, Gwendy was picked on by a group of mean girls, and it was thought that Magda DuBrau from a few blocks down was part of it, due to her smiling when the girls approached her across the street. The aggressors were able to give themselves deniability, but Magda was met with ire whenever Gwendy saw her in the weeks that followed, and it did not take much for Magda to realize why. That’s when she came up with the perfect solution to two problems.
“Gwendy, meet my Cousin Nicole…”
A couple of weeks passed, marking the transition between summer and school; Magda and her big brother brought a certain red-headed cousin of theirs to swing on the swing sets, knowing that Gwendy would be there that night. Nicole had been staying with both Magda’s family and their Uncle Randy’s family after the death of her mother and her sisters going into comatose states. Nicole had lost the zest for life that she used to have, and stopped making friends; just watching time pass in sadness. Magda’s gambit, however, paid off when Nicole began to see that Gwendy was also depressed. The two of them started off slowly, but began talking. It came to light that Magda had smiled at the girls who were making fun of Gwendy, but in actuality it was because of the cute Talbots shirt that Gwendy was wearing — as Magda and Serena were the fashionistas of the family. Gwendy was hesitant to believe this, so Magda whispered a request to Nicole, to which she refused at first. Not taking no for an answer, Magda begged for Nicole to do it; which she did: a dejected and tearful Nicole had punched Magda in the gut and threw her to the ground to absolve Magda of the pain she had inadvertently caused Gwendy. All was forgiven and friendships were forged.
Two weeks passed, and on the first day of school Gwendy and Nicole paired up for the introduction activity. The object was simple; they would list off the habits and hobbies of their partner and share it out loud with the class. Nicole overtaken by Gwendy’s shyness and eventual enthusiasm for their shared interests, and any doubt that Gwendy had about Nicole liking her had fallen by the wayside; but Nicole proved it even more when Ms. Breckenridge had to step outside the classroom for a second. Two bullies named Allen and Sally, who sat in the back row, called Gwendy horrible names and made fun of her weight. Before Serena had the chance to give them the what-for, Nicole became enraged and punched Sally in the nose, screaming for everyone in the class to not mess with her best friend. Then the hammer dropped when Ms. Breckenridge came back in and pulled Serena and Nicole out into the hall. While Serena tried to persuade Ms. B to punish her instead of Nicole, Gwendy sat at her desk, overcome with mixed feelings of shock and warmth. Fortunately, Nicole was let off with a warning and a visit to the speech teacher.
Enter the Third Musketeer, Stage Right…
One recess, Gwendy and Nicole saw all the other students were crowded around a new kid who was showing off some incredible soccer tricks. As they approached the center of the circle, the crowd began to disperse, as Nicole had become a source of fear for the other students after what she did to protect Gwendy’s honor. The new kid, Rafe Heyward, knew full well who the twosome were, and he showed his admiration of them by offering his friendship, and entrusting them with a secret: that he was still technically a girl (anatomically), having been born as Rachel Heyward, and come out as transgender. Lighting struck twice, as both Nicole and Gwendy were smitten with the soccer star, but Nicole was terrified of her feelings for both Gwendy and Rafe; as she was, by her logic, in love with two other girls; something that was unheard of from her perspective.
In them months that followed, Rafe began to not only win Serene Plains some trophies, but also won the respect and admiration of Nicole’s cousins and their friends. It was apparent that Rafe had chemistry with Gwendy and Nicole most of all, but it was still hard for Nicole to reconcile. For some reason, Ms. Breckinridge had changed Nicole’s seat in the classroom, possibly due to her “asthmatic reaction to chalk dust”, and Gwendy had been stood up at lunch, with Nicole not even showing up to the lunch room. To add on to the list of growing turmoil, Olivia had gotten a job in another city and they were going to be moving to Steelsville (at least 20 miles away). With the writing on the wall, Rafe spent every waking second that he could with Gwendy. Feeling like Nicole’s disappearance from her life was Gwendy’s fault, she decided to make a few changes, starting with trading her chocolate pudding for Rafe’s carrot sticks. The second change was to confide in Rafe about a certain soccer player she was attracted to. While she did not disclose the name, she demonstrated what she would do if she ever had the chance to tell this hypothetical student how she felt by kissing Rafe right there in the cafeteria.
On her last day in Remington, Rafe and a few of their friends met up with her at Nimoy Park with their yearbooks. Nicole was nowhere to be seen, but Gwendy had left Nicole a note in her locker, saying that she understood the depression she was going through, that should could not imagine losing both her mother and her own siblings the way Nicole did, but was sad that Nicole did not trust her enough with her feelings to let her help. With a heavy heart, Gwendy bade farewell to Serena, Magda, Jim, Harold, Spencer, and Rafe, and left for Steelsville the following morning.
Gwendy made a go of it at her new school, still not branching out as much as she could have, but continued her interests as an artist, and began to change her diet and exercise, but she did not tell Olivia the reason why; not that it mattered, because once she got started, Gwendy became a whole different person in the three years she persevered though her path. Near the end of Middle School, Gwendy and her mother began to read a new series of romance novels written by a brand new writer named A.J. Jones. As each new book came out, Gwendy and Olivia religiously began to read and reread Jones’s novels. All the while, Rafe and his mother would make occasional visits to Steelsville to call upon Gwendy and her mother. Past the occasional flirting, Gwendy and Rafe still masked their feelings for each other beyond their friendship.
