Personality and Appearance:
A young man with dark brown hair and brown eyes. Like his soulmate, he is on the A-spectrum at the highest-functioning level. Obsessed with cartoons, comics, and voice actors, Jesse’s interested do not intercede that well with others in his family. Jesse is soft-spoken, but can go on a bluestreak whenever a talking point he knows is ignited. Average height and average build is the best way to describe his looks, but Ariella can see past his flaws and see what is really in his heart and soul (and for some odd reason thinks that he is handsome– which he is immensely grateful for).

Jesse David Schucart is the youngest of Robert and Sharon Schucarts three children. Born with Asperger’s Syndrome, Jesse has had to deal with the stigma of being misunderstood for the things that he says, the way he says them, and how he processes information differently than other people. Often, he has gotten in trouble with authority figures who were too unenlightened and apathetic to try to see past the outer shell. (The drawing above, by Cousin Gwendy Schucart, helped isolate his feelings and fears and put them in a graphic manner.) Jesse always felt different, especially when it came to social interactions and reading other people and kids’ faces. While not at a place where he is free of the anxiety that being aware of this disorder causes, Jesse has the benefit of his staunchest supporter, his big sister Sophie.
Sophie did not always feel warmth toward her little brother– at least the first week of his life. After avoiding the infant outright for an entire 7 days by staying at their Gramma Anne’s apartment for the week, with her great-uncle Dr. Abrams dropping her off to and from pre-school, After an intervention by her parents and the contrite Sandy, Sophie toughened up and gave the kid a gander, and her heart melted after he cooed at her in a way he had not done for anyone else. Four-year-old Sophie would take the infant under her wing from that time on and would strive to be the best big sister ever.
When Jesse was in second grade, Sophie insisted on making sure he was comfortable in their aunt’s speech class at Serene Plains and personally escorted him after walking a few blocks from Remington Middle School. Sophie’s fears went by the wayside when she saw the little girl that Jesse would sit next to, her best friend’s little sister, Ariella (Ellie). Because of Ellie’s supernatural empathy powers, both of the children were enamored with the other, and Ellie fell in love… Jesse was smitten but didn’t realize how deep it would go. Whatever you call it, the two of them became inseparable.
Months went by and Ariella and Jesse were growing too close. All they did was fawn over the other and hold hands at recess, at least that’s what their friends saw. Ariella and Jess would talk and do things together, leading Jesse to finally admit that what he felt for her was love. But higher powers had decreed that the two of them needed room to grow and were embargoed by the Queen of the Neverscape herself from seeing the other.
To do this, Rebecca Jones, Ariella’s mother, and Jesse’s mother Shari both agreed to pull their children out of Serene Plains and have them homeschooled for a time. Ariella was not as upset as Jesse was. He felt his world had collapsed without Ellie. That’s when Esther Jones paid the boy a visit in her Pan attire and comforted him by sprinkling special pixie dust that would dull his memories of Ellie and keep them safe in his Psychic Vaults.
Yesterday is a New Day
Years later, Jesse would regain his memories of the girl he was madly in love with, at of all places, Book Brook. Ariella, going by the nickname AJ, had been friends with Jesse since their first day of 8th grade at Remington Junior High, and Jesse was there for all the times that AJ submitted her manuscripts to be published. On this particular day, Jesse was there to get his copy of her latest book autographed, not realizing that he was fed a false date for her signing session; she was only there for him, and was about to give him the key to their shared past. What she wrote in the book was the ignition spell, “Jesse, if you believe — truly believe— in magic, say the following words…” There were no other words, but he kept searching the inside cover, thinking he had missed something. Nothing showed up, but Jesse openly said to himself that he did beleive, and the words magically appeared: “Pan Time-Freeze!” Upon saying those words, time froze all around him, and Ariella got up out of her chair and told him that he passed the test.
