Early Life and Family
After her combinoft Foster died, Dane’s mother, Della-Kate Mousette hooked up with her former boyfriend and lover, Dorian, an Agent of the ZSF. While they were only together for a short time, their passions conceived a child, who would not get the chance to meet his father, who was murdered by the Quilliads not long after Dane was born. Lord Quoshent, the leader of the Quilliads kidnapped the newborn Dane and attempted to pass off a doppelclone in his place, but Demuria and her boyfriend Baxter caught on just hours after the kidnapping occurred, though too late to catch up with the infant before he changed hands amongst the black market. Demuria, now a teenager, vowed to take revenge on the Quilliads and find her baby brother, which resulted in Demuria taking up arms as a Shinobi Ninja in an official capacity with the Neverhive. It took them four Neveryears, but Baxter’s Uncles Boston and Ben received intel about a possible sighting of the young weasel in the Gamma Sector of the Great Myriad, under the care of a family of Neverscapian meerkats who adopted him — not aware of any involvement the broker had with the black market.
Against Della-Kate and Queen Beeatrix’s orders to let the ZSF and NSF engage the sighting, Demuria and her bee boyfriend geared up and traveled via fae magics to Neverzone 88-329-00032, where a now-orphaned Dane was scrounging for food from the native humans. Demuria tried to reach out to Dane, but before she got the chance to approach him, a trio of human pirates gave chase, wanting to slay him for stealing from their ship. When they cornered him, a now-steaming Demuria threw smoke bombs and Baxter flew the youngster to safety. What became of the pirates at this point is unclear, but any charges Demuria faced were absolved by Queen Aurora. Dane was taken to the Neverscape where Queen Aurora’s fayzicians gave the kid a checkup, but not without the youth throwing a mindless tirade after months of isolation and post-traumatic stress. When Demuria entered the clinic, Dane was instantly pacified just from her appearance, this being the first time they were face to face. Dr. Mintleaf and his collegues, frazzled, left the room and allowed Demuria to try to explain things.
Dane was infatuated with the ebon mouse, so when she told him that she was his sister, he had a hard time accepting this; mistaking his loyalty crush for the elder mousette as a crush. When Baxter entered the room, Dane became volatile and aggressive, not wanting to let Demuria go. It was clear that Dane had attachment issues and abandonment issues, and that it would take more than a day to clear them up. Dane was assigned to the custody of Palace sous-chef Roxanna Boiatomme, a Neverscapian squirrel-fae hybrid, and for half a Neveryear, Dane was tutored by Queen Aurora’s advisors and daughter Maddie, until finally Demuria paid him another visit, this time with their mother, Della-Kate. Dane still felt the pull toward Demuria, but when Della hugged him, it was like the world finally was restored for him. Dane was brought back to their native Neverzone and grew attached to Demuria, Della, Baxter, and future stepfather Reggie Ratte.
Stepping Up for Dainty
In the two Neveryears that passed, Dane felt like he had lived with his family for all his life, and his friendship with his big sister burned bright. It was around this time that Dane noticed something was bothering Demuria, something that his empathic powers could not see apart from a barrier. He tried to ask Demuria what was wrong, but she kept it to herself, dismissing it as a recurring dream, nothing more. Dane was not convinced, and the following night, when Baxter and Demuria were on a date, Dane snuck into Demuria’s room and tried to find anything that psionically linked to that barrier. He was caught in the act by Reggie, who was not shy about showing his great disappointment in his adoptive son, and that he should count his lucky stars that it was not his mother or sister. Dane cloistered himself in his room for days after that, too ashamed to come back out. When Demuria tried to pry Dane out to have a snack, he confessed what he did, fearing what Demuria would do to him. He half expected to get a verbal thrashing from her, but she knew it was time to tell him the truth.

BLESSED CURSE: Della-Kate and her first Combinoft, Foster Ferrette, were so excited to give birth to twin girls, but as impossible as it might sound, Demuria was probably more excited and wistful at the sight of her newborn ferret sisters, Felicia and Fiona. It was not meant to last though, as the twins died of SIDS not long afterward.
Demuria pulled out a photograph from her secret treasure box, one she swore she would never open again, but she needed to tell Dane about their sisters, Fiona and Felicia Ferrette. They were born when Demuria was a pre-teen, and due to the long-lived nature of Neverbeings, their childhoods lasted twice as long. Demuria was shattered when the twins were pronounced dead in Lady Galatea Sol’s clinic not even a week after their birth. Dane realized that this was why Demuria was so gung-ho when she learned he was alive, and why he felt such a strong pull to her. Dane apologized for invading Demuria’s privacy and vowed that if they had anymore siblings, that he would step up in the same manner that Demuria did for him. A Neveryear passed, and little Dainty was born to Reggie and Della.

Whisper and Loss of Their Mother
14 Neveryears passed, Dainty and Dane were given news that Della was expecting another child with Reggie, and it was spent with Dane mentoring Dainty in the same way Demuria did for him. He saw the look in Dainty’s eyes, she was already smitten with their unborn sister. Dainty and Dane waited on their mother hand and foot, Baxter’s death had hit everyone hard, and Demuria was under protective custody of the Neverhive and the Zetalords. Dane spent his days playing Neverball and spent his nights helping Dainty and Reggie set up the new child’s room in Reggie’s warren. In Galatea’s clinic, Della was brought in for a minor infection, but it spiraled into early labor, and right before the baby girl was taken out of Della’s arms, Della went into cardiac arrest. The true cause was never discovered, but Galatea and Dajanoten have not eliminated the link to the pregnancy. To honor Della, Reggie named their daughter Whisper, as the last words Della said were a faint whisper of, “hello precious.”
Return of the Quilliads; Winona’s frame-up; and Echochime

In the Earthean year 20XX, Prince Spencer Jones and his beloved, Mina Elechad, came to the Petaliaverse Neverzone to seal their bond as combinofts. Their first night in this Neverland, Mina and Echochime shared a kettle of orange-spice tea, sweetened with a jar of what was thought to be Neverhive honey, but when Mina accidentally spilled it on the floor, the tea ate away at the wood like acid. If they had not been endowed with Pan and fae magics, they would have been killed from within. Dane was the Neverbeing who delivered the tea and honey, but was too scared of the new human to stay and greet her, so his hiding in the eaves of the next house over revealed everything to him.
The following day, Echochime paid a visit to the Nevertribe PX and asked around for the owner of the soulprint she collected. Blackbirdwing Ironside, the half-owner of the PX, reluctantly gave Dane’s name, but on the condition that no harm was to come to him. Echochime surrendered her Fae Dagger and most of her pixie dust, so she was on equal footing with other Neverbeings. Blackbird’s intel led Echochime to the underground biodome, and the warren of Reggie Ratte. Whisper answered the door after Echochime asked to speak to Dane. He had just come out of the shower, and he was petrified, only for Whisper to encourage Dane to be cordial with their guest. As Whisper brought out some cheesicles from the freezer, Echochime interrogated the guilty-looking weasel. He copped to the eavesdropping and delivering the goods to their cabin, but he fervently denied knowing that the batch of honey was tainted, and Whisper corroborated this.
Fortunately, Echochime had made friends with their sisters Demuria and Dainty earlier in the day, and as they were quick on the draw with Whisper’s picture, and that their empathic scan was completely negative for any deceit or pretense; Echochime realized that Dane was innocent and she apologized. Dane made a skewed offhand remark about their adoptive mother’s favorite chef, and this made Echochime mad, “Lady Delania is very gifted for a Dryad.” It was from nerves and jitters that made Dane slip up like that, and he proved it by showing Echochime an autographed copy of their mother’s favorite cookbook, Girl and Squirrel: From the Kitchen of Lady Delania of the House of Kenna and the writing in the inside cover said it all. Little by little as the day progressed, Dane felt a strong pull to Echochime, and it was apparent that she was also romantically gravitating toward this cute young man.

The next few days, Echochime got to know Dane better, and she found herself in the one situation she would have never imagined, that she would find love outside of her family. Drawing on her Aunt AJ’s charms, Echochime wore an outfit similar to Ariella’s punk outfit and prepared a breakfast-dinner picnic at Inspiration Hill outside the PX. The outfit had done the trick, and Dane was feeling a deeper connection to her, but when the main course came around, Dane grew quiet and aloof, which Echochime had a hard time detecting until the day after. After a Quilliad girl named Piik had risked her life to travel to the main island to help Celia Spider, her mentor, Dane felt an instant dislike to this porcupine girl who, half-asleep, shrieked at him for being a weasel and then inadvertently dissed his brother v’combin Ross. Not wanting anymore to do with her, Dane went to work in Demuria’s kitchen, washing their mother’s favorite plates. Echochime came in and tried to help, but Dane rebuffed her, accusing her of thinking he was an evil predatory animal with no heart.
After Echochime huffed out with Ross and went up to the surface of the Black Forest above them, Dainty tried to get to the crux of what made her big brother so angry. Ross was trying to do the same thing by positioning himself from the branch of a tree and becoming a swing for Echochime to relax on. Echochime told Ross that she worked so hard to make it a perfect night, and that her cousin Celestin pulled out all the stops to make a delicious high-protein meal for her beau the Neverball player. Ross asked if eggs were involved, and that was when she learned of Dane’s aversion to them. Weasels are considered egg-stealers and detestable creatures by human standards. Dainty tried to defend Echochime’s misstep by saying that mice are also lampooned in human cartoons for their “desire” for cheese. She does not let it affect her because it is not important enough to let it dominate her even in the smallest degree.
Dane and Echochime met back in Demuria’s kitchen, exchanged apologies, and she asked if Dane would give her a second chance at a first date. Dane asked if they could do it on a smaller blanket or make it a double date. Without even a second to think about it, Echochime flittered into the other room and enthusiastically invited Dainty and Ross.
