Felipe Elechad

Family History

Prior to 1553, Sonya Elechad and her common-law husband, Stavros Disraelli, were part of a secret caste of Jews who lived on farms on the northern horn of Ireland outside of Belfast. Stavros was a brewer and a peddler while his wife taught in an underground school for their community. Having come from an abusive home, Stavros would delineate his father, Dionte, and change his name to Ozraelocles. Despite living in poverty, Sonya and Oz lived happily with their daughter Siobhan, a tomboyish young girl who idolized her elder cousins Ray and Finn Hardt. Far from having a strife-free life, they did carve out a happy existence, keeping their Judaism a secret from other Irishmen.

March 15th of this year would decimate their community, forever. Hordes of flying pirate ships invaded Belfast, disembarking vast armies that would capture most of the populace. Having fled the farms that were set ablaze by these marauders, Oz and Sonya were separated from Siobhan, and spirited back to the Core, a city-state in the Dark Neverzone where the pirates had come from. Oz was forcibly inducted into the pirates’ crew, out of fear that they would kill Sonya. Tragically, the Overlord had taken a liking to the beautiful Sonya, and made her his top concubine. Her forced captivity would bear her two children: twins.

Birth and Secret Life

In her third trimester, Sonya was put in the care of the Core’s midwives, most of whom were zealots who were Huek’s followers. However, one of the younger midwives named Jasmine, secretly took a liking to Sonya, and took many steps to protect her from the others. Jasmine had been abducted from her family from the Romani Clan and forced to do Huek’s bidding, and saw that the women in their care were the same. On the day that Sonya gave birth, Jasmine held Sonya’s hand as a baby girl was born. Because of the kindness that Jasmine had shown, Sonya named her daughter Yasmina. While the other two Midwives stepped out, Sonya went into labor again; realizing that she was carrying twins. While Yasmina was being taken care of, in preparation for transport to the nursery, the baby son was born, and Jasmine took Sonya and the child to the Neverpeaks on the other side of the island, where the baby — now called Felipe, after Sonya’s uncle — was given a bris and tattooed with the birthmark that his sister was born with, the same one that most Elechads were born with: a hammer’s head.

Guillermo, the husband of Jasmine’s sister Minerva, tried to keep Sonya and the baby for as long as he could, but the Overlord’s troops had cast a dragnet throughout the region. Sonya and Jasmine fled the Romani hideout, hoping to beat them back to the Core; but the midwives brought them before the Overlord. Huek had slain Jasmine, right in front of Sonya’s eyes so as to set an example. Devastated, Sonya refused to talk about what had happened during the week they were gone; even going so far as to spit in Huek’s face. Rather than kill her, Huek branded her on the right-side of her torso with his emblem and enchanted her with a dark curse. She was then reinstated as Huek’s concubine, and later given the status of First Mate on his ship.

Childhood

Felipe was raised by Guillermo and Minerva alongside a few young slaves that members of the Underground managed to rescue as their foster children. One child in particular was a mentor figure to the young Felipe, Angus O’Shaughnessey; though only Guillermo and Minerva knew the truth as to why: Angus was another child that was sired by the Overlord; the rest of the children were castaways from kidnapped families from Earth. Under the tutelage of their Romani elders and Angus, a young Feliepe learned many skills and fighting styles, as well as an appreciation for all life; good or evil. Though it was dangerous and forbidden, there were times when Felipe would venture out of the monumentous mountain where they lived in, and observe warriors and scouts from the Nevertribe and Lost Boys on patrol and hunting missions.

When Felipe was around 8 years old, a visitor had come to the Romani’s underground village and paid him a visit. The man was unfamiliar to him, but he could feel Stavros’s aura; as if he was connected to him in some way. Felipe had many questions for the man, but did not have the desire to have them answered; instead, he gave the mustachioed man something he had found: a polished and shimmering Lazuli gem, hoping it would bring the kindly stranger luck. Stavros was not the only individual who looked out for Felipe from afar; a mysterious set of eyes would peer out from the underground springs and stone tubes, a girl who was the same age as Felipe; a mermaid named Kindradell who had developed feelings for the shy young Irish boy.

Maturity and the Rebellion

Word had gotten out about a new movement of rebels that were determined to topple the tyranny of the Overlord, and this new captain’s scouts had been on the prowl for new recruits. Felipe had been taken to a tabernacle that was sacred to the Nevertribe and was given a test by the captain, revealing that despite being a girl, she was a force to be reckoned with. Nevertheless, Felipe was able to stand his ground in a test fight, but questions arose in his mind when he caught a glimpse of a birthmark just above her waist for a split-second. Like with Stavros Oz, this Mina Elechad seemed to have a connection to him; which was further cemented when she chose him out of hundreds of possible recruits with better fighting skills than he.

Felipe would get to know this mysterious captain in the weeks that followed, as they worked to establish lifelines and refurbish discarded equipment. Felipe assumed that he would have a hand in the manual labor as well, but Mina had given him the title of ship’s bosun and gave him special quarters near hers. One of his main duties was to look after Mina’s mother, Sonya. All the special privileges taht Felipe received had often gotten him in trouble with his shipmates, but that never lasted long, as Mina was quick to temper and put all bullies in their place.

About a few weeks into his service on the Roger, Mina’s ship; Felipe had finally asked Sonya if there was a connection to him from Mina, which Sonya confirmed; she was his mother, and that Mina had no idea that Felipe was her sibling. Sonya begged Felipe to keep this information to himself, which he kept his word on. However, learning of Sonya Elechad as his mother shed light on the prisoner in the brig — a misshapen old man calling himself Ozraelocles — as being his father too. Against Mina’s orders, Felipe would bring food and drink from the ship’s galley to the old man, and would ask him questions about their past, becoming a friend to Stavros after so many years of first meeting him. Felipe also forged a rivalry with a cocky, yet skilled, shipmate named Joso Hawkins; a rivalry that grew more and more heated as time went by.
