Appearance

Contrary to the rest of the wasp species, Winona is part-honeybee, which gives her a much richer yellow coat and glossy black stripes. Her eyes are a deep and glimmering blue, whereas wasps have faceted-deep red eyes. Her physical form is also sleeker and more slender than either bees or wasps. Even her full-blooded siblings who have bee blood in them, carry only wasp traits; making Winona truly one of a kind. After her initiation into ToxAnon, Winona is seldom seen without her white baseball cap, brown gloves and boots, ToxAnon sash, and a cork for her stinger which stays in place by Winona releasing barbs from her stinger to latch onto the support crevice. When she is back in her aunt’s palace is when she allows herself to remove her protective garb — except when she helps her cousins in the royal confectioners’ kitchen.

Personality
It is a sad and harsh reality that Winona is seen as hazardous and sinister just from first glance, when, in fact, nothing could be further from the truth. Out of her entire hive, Winona is one of the only known wasps to be extremely meek and docile, which is a stark contrast to the poison that her stinger and secretion feelers contain. What makes her special is her hybridity; being part wasp with dominant honeybee genes, the latter of which is where most of her personality is derived; inherited from her mother, Countess Belinda. Oftentimes, Winona never had to clash against the more-aggressive wasps of the hive, mainly because she was able to blend in and draw attention away from herself. Winona’s desire to craft honey and to have friendships with her maternal family comes from Winona losing the most important figure in her life, her mother.

For most of her childhood, Winona and her twin sister Whitney never saw eye-to-eye. It was Whitney’s fear that Winona’s sissy dreams of being like the bees would get their family into trouble. Belinda, for the most part, was able to convince Whitney that Winona was unique, and that she needed her family’s love and understanding. While she is still soft-spoken and shy, becoming a full-fledged member of ToxAnon has given her the true inner-strength that everyone else knew she had. She is no longer afraid to express her desires, emotions, and give love to those around her. While it is not a reflection of her personality, her blue eyes are mirrors into the true beauty of Winona’s soul, which helps others to boost her spirits.
History

The daughter of a blue-collar wasp drone and a honeybee countess, Winona was the only one of her siblings to carry a dominant honeybee hybrid gene, which made her personality traits far more gentler and kinder. After her mother died, Winona’s father remarried to a sterner and meaner female wasp who did not want anything to do with this “problem child”. Because of the dictatorship of the Wasp Empress, free-thinking and non-conformist behavior was considered blasphemous. When the Empress learned from Winona’s school teacher that she had written an essay of her desires to make honey, she made an ultimatum to Winona’s father and stepmother, which resulted in her being exiled from her hive, never mind that she was only a child. Whitney tried everything she could to keep Winona safe from the Empress’s minions, but wound up falling into their trap, herself, facing the lances and swords of the Empress’s personal headsmen. Terrified for her twin sister’s life, Winona begged the guards to not harm her; and much to Whitney’s dismay, Winona allowed herself to be swapped in as their prisoner.

Winona was tossed out of her family home and their lives without so much as a goodbye from their father or brothers. With Winona having lost her spirit, and had nowhere else to go, Whitney ran away from the hive reached out to their two pure-bee sisters, Billie and Barbara, who were forbidden to have contact with Belinda or her new family, by their stepfather Walter. Before this meeting in the Neverwoods, Willow (Nicknamed Billie) and Barbara had had never met any of their half-siblings before. But, from the moment they first laid eyes on Winona, they saw too much of their mother’s kindness in Winona to turn her away. Whitney begged the sisters they had never met, to give Winona all the love they could. Seeing it as their duty to advocate for Winona’s welfare, the sisters arranged for an audience with their princess cousins for Winona’s future. As Winona slept in their safe house, Whitney bid her twin her last goodbyes, and despite her nature, she dug deep and gave Billie and Babs her undying love for helping Winona. They, in turn, expressed their deepest pride and love for Whitney taking such a risk by leaving the Wasp Hive, to help Winona.
Seeing how devastating the impact of her exile so soon after losing their mother, Winona’s sisters let her sleep for as long as she needed to while they used a dragonfly tram to escort her to the Honeybee’s kingdom. During the three days that she slept, it was decided that, because Barbara and Billie were diplomats who did not have permanent housing, Winona would be better off if she could be welcomed to their maternal family’s palace in the honeybee kingdom on the other side of the island. Winona woke up in a fancy guest bedroom in the palace, sadly realizing that Whitney was gone, and that Billie and Babs did not say goodbye. That was when she met Bernadette and Bailey, her cousins, for the first time, right before she would be taken to see Queen Beeatrix. Winona lived in the sanctuary of her Aunt Beeatrix’s sovereignty and gentle guidance. Beeatrix’s daughters latched onto their baby cousin with as caring and maternal of love as their mother, in part because she needed their support because the kingdom’s denizens did not recognize her as a legitimate member of the royal family because of her being part wasp.
Though it was unconventional in some ways, Billie and Babs had always hoped that they would have a relationship with their half-siblings, so they kept their doors open, and their faith was rewarded when they were given the honor of being Winona’s safe harbor. Winona, however, was under the misnomer that her big sisters had left her with Queen Beeatrix and their cousins during the three days that Winona was asleep, she was under the impression that they considered her a burden and did not love her; but all it took was for their Uncle Boston to show Winona a pile of letters marked “return to sender” that were addressed to her and Whitney, matching the timelines of their birthdays and special occasions that only the Neverhive recognized. Winona’s faith was restored in them, but not of the hives that made her out to be a monster and a traitor, notwithstanding Beeatrix and her daughters, Boston, and a few trusted friends. It would take a while, but Winona would eventually get the chance to bond with her big sisters in the ways she had always hoped for; but first, Winona would have to find that which she lost a long time ago, her inner-smile.

After a few families in the bee hive came down with an acute case of poisoning from a bad batch of honey, Winona was named by the populace as the culprit, which led to mass protests and threats to the crown. Queen Beeatrix’s feelers were tied, but she had no shortage of friends on the outside, seeking help from Lady Sal Sol, one of the Neverlords of the island, who opened up her biodome sanctuary as a safe haven for the youngling. Winona’s case was given to the attention of a group known as ToxAnon; Toxins Anonymous, which was headed by Petalia the Wildflower and Ross the Rattler. After first meeting her, Petalia invited Winona to be a part of the group, and had her join one of their meetings.

The meeting was held on Petalia’s hill overlooking the coast, and Winona was fettered by timidity and self-hatred, refusing to even look up from the dirt and not wanting to leave Petalia’s leaves. Each of the other members tried their hardest to make Winona feel at home, including Ross’s revelation of how he was combined with a girl who was of a species that his kind lived on, Dainty Mousette. Even with all of these peers in her corner, Winona did not allow herself to lower her shields. Winona had no memory of meeting Billie and Babs because she was so exhausted and devastated, that she fell asleep; so she had no way of knowing how much they truly love her. Despite the love of Berna and Bailey that bridges the gap, Winona’s lack of self-esteem was in part due to her home life, and from her needless fear of what her half-sisters thought of her. The only two members of her birth hive that she had the full love and support of was Whitney and their mother.
That’s where the Big Three of the group came in. The three members of the group who were of species that were non-toxic from birth: Arthur Peggio Hopper, his girlfriend Tina Tortoise, and their friend Charlotte the Chameleon gave Winona a welcome package which included a ToxAnon sash, shoes, gloves, cork for her stinger, baseball hat, balloon, welcome card, and their undying friendship. It was at that time when the truth of their actions finally sank in as such. Winona was now part of a collective that would not ever turn their backs on her just for what she was born as. They were not a group of friends; ToxAnon is more akin to a family; one that Petalia was so proud to have Winona want to be a part of.

As a member of ToxAnon, Winona was given a chance to come out of her shell by going on a field trip into the biodome’s brook, where the Magtis flowers are kept while they are being prepared for their role in a Combinoft Ritual. Being a member for such a short time was not enough to make Winona shed her shyness and fear. With the help of the others, a tent stake was placed in the ground and a rope was tied to the loop and around Winona’s waist at a safe distance from the pot where Gloria slept. The aroma of Gloria’s pollen and the beauty of her floral features were too much to resist, which was the reason Winona begged to have the metal loop tied to her.

On the day of Prince Spencer and Princess Mina’s Combinoft Ritual, Winona was invited to a special party in Petalia and Gloria’s honor. The rookie ToxAnoner was given the chance to mingle with so many creatures she never would have been able to before, with Acidney and Samantha from the group by her side. Eventually, Winona was cleared of the accusations of how the honey she helped craft was tainted by her wasp toxins, and the Royals apologized to her on behalf of the entire kingdom. Having been burnt twice by the kingdoms of two factions, Winona did not feel she belonged with her aunt and cousins, so she was given the keys to Celia the Spider’s apartment after the latter followed Petalia to Petra’s Neverzone. She was also still welcome in the biodome whenever she pleased. With a newfound sense of purpose and determination, Winona was running on boundless confidence and self-regard she never had before.

The group felt the hearts of the Gladdies and knew that their words were genuine. Winona was someone whose face was unreadable, but she had been through too much to not be able to sense sincerity or deceit. Gardenia’s sisters had, in the past, turned away every member but the Big Three because they lacked physical poison. It only took Gloria defying the soil lock spell and nearly losing her life to a berserk Bramber to realize what they had done. Gardenia’s story of the elder twin sisters she had that lost their lives by recklessness touched WInona most of all, since she herself was a twin and both of them had lost their mother; which made Winona and Gardenia kindred spirits.

Not too long after this, Combinoft couples, Saturnring Anderson and Percusshawn Singleton; and Sunrise Jensen and Lemon Spritz Pinchos, were tasked by Queen Auroralania Faye to reach out to Winona, personally, and learn from them the ins and outs of ToxAnon; what their exact mission statement was, what services they provided to their protectorates, all in an endeavor to co-found new branches of ToxAnon along the Five Points: Earth, Neverland Prime, Neverscape, Polaris, and Petra’s Neverzone. It was Saturnring’s insistence also that the group was given a special invite to the next NSCC: Neverscape ComicCon, especially Winona.

Brotherly love from afar
It took a lot of time, but Winona had begun to blossom from the shy and timid exile that she was before joining ToxAnon. The ones who framed her for the poisoned batches of honey that she tried to craft with Berna and Bailey, had been brought to justice, and WInona’s good name had been restored. Even without returning to the palace as a resident, Queen Beeatrix was delighted to have her as a visitor. During this time, she began to cultivate a fascination for the genealogy of the royal family. Winona’s Uncle Boston began to tutor her in the long family history of their hive, dating back to prior to relocating from their home in the Neverscape to the Combination Neverzone. Little by little, Winona became well-versed in their family’s lineage. In addition to being royalty, the Bee Clan had also been part of a long line of soldiers and warriors in service of the Lords of the Zetascape. With all this knowledge, Winona began to feel a little more whole than she had ever been, but there was still one story that was missing from her family tree, a name that she had learned from her sisters: Baxter Bee.
When Winona asked Boston to fill in the blanks on who this mysterious individual was, Boston completely shut down; passing out and having to be taken to Lord Silver Dart Sol, himself. After recovering, Boston stopped his tutoring of Winona on their family tree, completely. Shocked, but undeterred, Winona began to do some investigating of her own. She first tried to coyly open a dialogue with Queen Beeatrix about this, but did not have the nerve, fearing that such a reaction from her uncle could not have been random, and did not want to risk hurting her surrogate mother. With her sisters away in another Neverzone, and Berna and Bailey on a goodwill mission alongside the FaeForces, Winona went in a different direction in her investigation, starting with the matriarch of the Gladdies, Gertrude. It was very little to go on, but Gertrude had known a bee by the name of Baxter, who was nearly the same age as Bailey and Berna. When asked if Lady Sal would have known the other royals of the Neverhive, Gertrude gave a sharp nod.
The following day, Lady Sal and her combinoft wife were visited by Winona and Samantha Scorpion. Samantha’s job was to charm the human couple while Winona tried her best to feel out whether or not they would be willing to approach the subject. Sadly, Winona had reckoned without the keen empathic powers of the Nevertribian Lordess. Sal knew where Winona was going with this, and only said that her hands were tied, that she had sworn an oath to Countess Belinda, whom Winona had not even brought up in conversation or thought. Samantha, upon their departure, assured Winona that this was a good thing — they had not left empty-clawed. That nuggets of information was Sal’s way of bypassing her own embargo. Queen Beeatrix had mentioned, once, that Winona’s mother was a dear friend of Tetrazin, Sal’s slvskorte. Taking a gamble, Winona brought Cello in on her little investigation, the latter agreeing to help her find the truth, and arranging a girl’s night with Tetra, themselves, and Felidia Falconne; a mutual friend.
On the roof Celia’s old apartment building, where Winona was currently living, the four friends had tea and biscuits, and having girl talk. On the roof, also, was sister-twosome Dainty and Demuria, who happened to hear the name Baxter come up in their conversation. The reactions between the two sisters were completely polarized; Dainty looked up at the sky, in reverence, while Demuria broke down into tears. Cello went over to console Demuria, but the latter only stared at Winona like she had stabbed the ebon mouse in the heart. Winona left the roof, feeling empty and guilty for inadvertently causing harm to Ross’s sister v’combin. Tetra, hours later, found the melencholy Winona in the secret memorial site for Petalia’s mother and Gertrude’s daughters. Winona had seen looks like Demuria’s, before; the same looks that Winona saw in the mirror after her father remarried; grief. Winona refused to budge; she had already hurt her uncle and Demuria with her search, to which Tetra asked her “How do you know it is their pain, solely?” Without any response, Tetra flew Winona back to the Neverhive, insisting she stay the night with her aunt.
The next morning, Winona awoke to sight of Demuria, Dainty, Ross, Tetra, Cello, and Laddie. Demuria had felt terrible when she learned that Winona believed her search had caused Demuria to be upset at her. It was never lost upon Demuria that Winona had a connection to Baxter, and it was about time that she learned the truth. Ross and Laddie brought in a box from the Hive’s archives, labeled “Baxter Bee, Personal Effects” with instructions that it was to be bequeathed to Winona. Before Winona opened it, Demuria gave Winona a warm hug. Before Winona could ask, Demuria revealed that she was Baxter’s Combinoft, and shared a royal secret with Winona: that she and Baxter had children together; but Winona had to swear to keep this to herself. Winona crossed her heart to keep the secret, but it also cause her to freeze in place. It was starting to feel overwhelming, so much so that she was afraid to proceed, but everyone there, especially Demuria and Dainty, encouraged her to look inside. The first thing she saw was a portrait of a bee in an Air Force uniform, signed by Baxter to Wilhelmina, long before Winona went by her middle name. The next item was a letter.
Within the letter, it was revealed that Baxter was a Neverscapian Air Guard soldier, and that he knew that it was unlikely he would make it home alive from his final mission. He shared that both his half-sisters were still eggs when he wrote it, and prepared for the worst by writing letters and bequeathing certain possessions of his to both Winona and Whitney. More than just material things, these items were insights into the fun-loving boy he once was, and the man he became, who served his people and allies. The most precious gift he gave to her, at least what Winona thought, was the affirmation that even knowing his sisters were half-wasp, they were beautiful and taht he would always love them. The letter, his bomber jacket, game system, and favorite game cards were a link to the brother she had never known, and it all finally clicked together: Boston and the others had hidden the truth about him being Belinda’s eldest child, because they were only trying to protect her and prolong her chances of a broken heart after already losing so much. Demuria was the last to leave Winona’s room, wanting to make sure that her sister v’combin was okay. Winona’s tears fell as she kept reading over the letter. Demuria promised her that even with his departure, his spirit was not gone. Winona’s drive to help others was not a royal trait, it was what endeared the royals to their people; hence her involvement in helping others with poisonous bodies who hated themselves. Demuria also gave Winona a picture of her eight children — three of them still eggs; and encouraged her to hang on to hope that they would all be reunited. Winona had already adored Demuria for being Dainty and Ross’s sister; but having Demuria as her sister as well, it softened the blow of her brother’s passing, significantly. Whitney’s box contained that same portrait of their brother, made out to her, and a letter with a heartfelt request, and two special Yu-Bee-Go! cards that were designed specifically for the twins; a sign of love and acceptance from their step-father and step-uncle, who each had foreseen the twins’ true hearts; loving them like they were their own.

The following night, Barbara and Billie returned to their Neverzone, and made arrangements to meet up with Winona at her apartment, and brought along a special guest, Whitney, who was now an emancipated teen, free to live in the Neverhive with her sisters and cousins; washing her hands of her father and stepmother, entirely. Before their night of girl talk and fun, Whitney was given her box of Baxter’s personal effects; specifically sorted out for her. In the box was an identical portrait, hand-painted by Demuria, herself; a letter; and some of Baxter’s treasured ninja weapons — the ones he had when he met and fell in love with Demuria (nunchuks, shuriken, tsais, collapsible bo staffs, and a lance and shield.) Also contained in the box were more cards; each sister had enough of them so that they could build decks and play with each other; with special cards that were made just for them, thanks to Baxter’s connections.

ABOVE: Due to the Nevertribe’s ethereal insight, both Bellmyke and his brother — the spouses of Queen Beeatrix and Countess Belinda — Baxter had the energy that reflected their love for the twins, who would be born of Belinda and another after their passing, put into card form, making them shimmer and sparkle. The Bellmyke card was given to Whitney as a symbol of her strength and protective nature; and the Burton card was meant for Winona (Wilhelmina, as she is referred) as a symbol of her fortitude and potential.
In the letters, Baxter disclosed that he knew what his sisters would turn out like, thanks to help from Silvadarten Sol, the Nevertribe Prince. Even though he was unable to predict the birth of another sister and a brother after them, Silver Dart honored Baxter’s potential last wish by telling him what his siblings would be like: Winona being meek and creative, and Whitney being aggressive and fierce. Babs pointed out that what they were doing, in that moment, was probably the greatest way to honor their brother, by being together and remembering him, their sisterly bonds being galvanized in a way that even the Wasp Empress would not be able to tear apart.
